Roberts Ranch House – Madera

Oil Painting of ranch house at 24245 Raymond Road, Madera, Madera County, California. Size: 24 x 50 inches

I lived there for about five years from the fall of 1959. Dad rented the farm which became his headquarters for his equipment and as well, he planted grain in the surrounding fields. This oil painting is loose and done from memory. I gifted this painting to my sister in Sonora, California. One thing missing is a second sycamore tree, which is in the front of the house at the left of this image. If I had painted that in, the front of the house would be obscured.

Bradley-Wallace Farm

Oils on sized cotton fabric – 31.5 x 31.5 inches

This farm and buildings were probably built between the years of 1890 and 1900, in east Fresno. Other farms in this county and Madera County have that history of similar layout of the main house and tank house. The tank house was adjacent to a well and windmill in all of these locations. This ranch location was on what later became the Northwest corner of Ashlan Avenue and Temperance Avenue. These buildings have since been leveled [around 2019] and a new house sits there now. In a title search at the Fresno County Hall of Records shows that the property was twenty acres of fruit trees, in what comprised 8 lots of the Arlington Heights Tract of Fresno County. In 1912, Bradley and Wallace sold the farm to C.R. League and Martha Moffett, both of Fresno. If there were owners earlier than Bradley and Wallace, I could not find.

Art - Juliet - Final as of November 2 - 2019

After being down for a couple years, and some minor things worked on, this is “up” here again in September 2022. The model is from a c1962 east coast art school photograph for figure studies.

58 x 72 inches – Oils and Oil based enamels – October 2019

Painted for the Sorensens Gallery “Nudes in November” show for November 2019. It won no awards.

It was entered and displayed at the Thursday November 7, 2019 Fresno “Art Hop” open house.

This shot above was from a phone camera and not on a tripod for exact angles. So that one can see the edges of the canvas, I didn’t want to crop off part of the painting, like the top of her head.

The Islands

Art - by Desmond - Islands - May 22 - 2019 cropped

58 x 91 inches – Oil and Acrylics on canvas – November 2018.

Update April 20 – 2021

NO LONGER AVAILABLE ………… As of April 2021, This painting was placed in a NEW HOME to a lady in Madera named Mary.

She was very proud of it and said that …. “It did open up will open up my family room.”

Update: May 8, 2019.

Painted for a previous a client, on my personal whim, who liked it but had several reservations, the crux of which turns out to be the size. “It is too large.” So, that is quite all right and while one cannot argue unknown points, I am reminded of the movie Amadeus and at the end of a symphony, the king told Mozart it was too long and to just … “cut out a few notes.” More later on this painting.
